What is creatine?
The term creatine is derived from the Greek word for meat, because in addition to fish, the substance is found primarily in meat. However, since the substance is very temperature-sensitive, large amounts are lost during frying and cooking, for example. Moderate amounts are also available in cow’s milk, and only traces are found in fruit and vegetables.
Creatine is a substance that helps to supply the muscles with energy. It is found in about 90% of skeletal muscle, is produced in the kidney, liver and pancreas, and is formally derived from the three amino acids glycine, arginine and methionine.
